Fancy Headstalls

These are, in most cases, our stock headstalls with just a bit of silver and imagination added. They are made the same way and with the same materials. Please see our stock headstall page for material and construction information.

We hope you'll take a look at some of the headstalls in the Fancy Headstall Gallery to see some of our favorites.

Trim

We use a number of different suppliers for our silver and brass trim so we can offer a variety of options to our clients. We use solid sterling, sterling overlay, and silver plate so we can meet a number of price ranges. All of our trim is clearly marked as to the type of silver.

Design

The main elements of a fancy headstall are buckles, conchos and design. Designs usually include stamping, metal spots and appliqué. Many of these elements can be combined in a number of ways with infinite possibilities as a result.

Stamping

Stamping options are limited to what can be done in a small area as the design must be kept within the sewing lines. However, we have a number of stamps, including several small basket stamps, that will work well.

Metal spots

The metal spots are available in several sizes and in both brass and nickel. Some projects will dictate the size and type of spot we can use, but these cases are rare.

Appliqué

Appliqué is a raised braid. We usually make the appliquéd browbands wider than the headstall itself so there is room for a wider braid. This gives the headstall more visual impact. We use kangaroo strings to do the appliqué and it is available in a variety of colors.
